U.S. Trying to Deport 'Son of Hamas'

If he is deported back to Gaza or the West Bank, he will be slaughtered. Yousef escaped a life of terror and denounces radical Islam. He was able to stop Hamas terrorists from butchering Israelis in a twisted quest for jihad. And yet the Department of Homeland Security wants to deport him while the failed underwear bomber remains and was read Miranda rights?

This is in relation to this post.

By Art Moore for World Net Daily:
The Department of Homeland Security is trying to deport the son of a Hamas founder who told of his conversion to Christianity and decade of spying for Israel in a New York Times best-seller.

"Son of Hamas" author Mosab Hassan Yousef revealed on a blog hosted by his publisher he is scheduled to appear June 30 before Immigration Judge Rico J. Bartolomei at the DHS Immigration Court in San Diego.

Yousef said the DHS informed him Feb. 23, 2009, he was barred from asylum in the U.S. because there were reasonable grounds for believing he was "a danger to the security of the United States" and "engaged in terrorist activity."

An incredulous Yousef said the U.S. government's belief he is a terrorist is based on a complete misinterpretation of passages of his book in which he describes his work as a counterterrorism agent for the Israeli internal intelligence service Shin Bet.

From the world of radical Islam to the world of the radically transformed. Order your copy of "Son of Hamas" from the WND Superstore now!

Yousef said he's not so much worried about himself as he is "outraged" about "a security system that is so primitive and naive that it endangers the lives of countless Americans."

"If Homeland Security cannot tell the difference between a terrorist and a man who spent his life fighting terrorism, how can they protect their own people?" he asked in his blog post.

Yousef said whatever Judge Bartolomei decides will be appealed, "and this insane merry-go-round can go on like that for decades."

Yousef's asylum case – A 088 271 051 – was filed Aug. 22, 2007, about seven months after he arrived in the U.S. from Israel.

The office of DHS Senior Attorney Kerri Calcador, who is handling the case, referred WND's request for comment to Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Lauren Mack, who said the agency is barred by policy from commenting, or even confirming or denying the existence of any case.

WND tried to reach Yousef for further comment, but he was not available.

As WND reported, Yousef worked alongside his father, Sheik Hassan Yousef, in the West Bank city of al-Ghaniya near Ramallah while secretly embracing Christian faith and serving as one of the top spies for Israel's internal security arm. Yousef was recruited by Shin Bet in 1996 at the age of 18 while at an Israeli detention facility.

Since publicly declaring his faith in August 2008, he has been condemned by an al-Qaida-affiliated group and disowned by his family.

His chief Shin Bet handler, "Captain Loai," has confirmed his account and praised him in media interviews for disrupting dozens of suicide bombings and assassination attempts by Hamas, saving hundreds of lives....

Geller on Muslims Offended By SIOA Bus Ads: "Are you saying that Muslim citizens living here don't believe in religious freedom?"

Thanks to Jihad Watch.

4:89 (Qur'an, Surah 4): "But if they turn renegade ("reject faith", leave Islam), seize them and SLAY them wherever ye find them."

Here is Pamela Geller speaking about her campaign to help apostates from Islam and the backlash she has experienced from groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Detroit Transit Sued For Nixing 'Leaving Islam?' Advertisement

In other words, free speech is okay for some, like Muslims calling for people to convert. It's not okay for those offering support for apostates from Islam. The ads don't violate any law, so the public transit authority shouldn't prohibit them from running.

From The Washington Times:
A bus-ad campaign that seeks to offer resources to those considering leaving Islam already has stirred up controversy in Miami and New York, but its next city may create the most fireworks - Detroit, the U.S. metropolitan area with the heaviest concentration of Middle Easterners.

The Detroit-area bus authority has refused to run the ads from Stop Islamization of America, an organization headed up by conservative activist and anti-jihad blogger Pamela Geller, prompting SIOA to file a federal lawsuit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Mrs. Geller said the transport authority's refusal to run her ads violates her First Amendment right of free speech, and she will take the lawsuit to the Supreme Court if necessary.

"It is against the law, and I tell you, those ads will go up whether they like it or not," Mrs. Geller said.

SIOA initially encountered a similar refusal in Miami, but Mrs. Geller said a lawsuit prompted the transport-authority there to relent in less than 24 hours.

Several calls to the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation, which operates the bus system serving Detroit and two surrounding counties, were not returned Thursday.

Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Michigan, said he expects that even if the ads do run in Detroit, they will not elicit any response besides puzzlement. The Detroit area, centering on Dearborn, is home to a quarter-million Muslims, whom Mr. Walid does not expect to react favorably to the presence of SIOA's ads in their city.

"If she's planning to put those Islamophobic ads in Detroit, she's wasting her time," Mr. Walid said.

The Detroit area also has a large Arab and Middle Eastern Christian population, centering on suburbs north of the city proper.

Mrs. Geller said SIOA began its national city-by-city ad campaign in response to bus ads in Florida inviting people to convert to Islam.

The SIOA ads read, "Fatwah on your head? Is your family or community threatening you? Leaving Islam? Got Questions? Get answers!" and provides a Web address that links to organizations that serve Muslim apostates. The bus ads are running in Miami through June 15 and began running in New York last week and will run through late June, Mrs. Geller said.

Part of the conflict centers on whether Muslims are free to leave Islam without retribution, and whether their families will punish or kill them for conversion.

One such case that has made national headlines in the U.S. involves 17-year-old Rifqa Bary, who fled her parents' Ohio home to stay with a Florida Christian minister after she converted. In the ensuing custody and foster care disputes, her Muslim parents deny that the girl will be harmed if she returns home.

Abdul Rahman, an Afghan citizen, was arrested in 2006 for converting to Christianity there, and members of his family asked prosecutors to seek the death penalty. But the international outcry over Mr. Rahman's case, and the fact that the Afghan government was installed by the U.S. invasion - plus doubts about the case and Mr. Rahman's sanity - combined to prompt the court to release him.

The consensus view among Muslim jurists worldwide is that apostasy, unless mitigated by such factors as mental illness or duress, is punishable by death. Mrs. Geller cited a fatwa, or ruling point on Islamic law, issued by the authoritative Al-Azhar University in 1978, that said: "This man has committed apostasy; he must be given a chance to repent, and if he does not, then he must be killed, according to Shariah [law]."

Mr. Walid denied Mrs. Geller's claims, though he provided no authoritative citations, and attacked Mrs. Geller's character.

"She's a well-known anti-Muslim bigot," he said. "She makes no distinction between extremist Muslims and mainstream Muslims."

Mr. Walid said that although there have been a few cases of violence against Muslims who convert away from the religion, there is no retribution for those who choose to leave Islam.

"People are free to leave Islam or any religion at any time. This is the United States of America," he said.

But a public educator in Dearborn, speaking on the condition of anonymity owing to fear of retribution, said there is a climate of fear in the Detroit area's Muslim community.

"The fear is palpable. I know there are things I am 'not allowed' to say. A discussion of religion with a Muslim person is often prefaced by the statement, 'Dont say anything about the Prophet [Muhammad].' In free society, open and honest conversation is not usually begun by a prohibition. Threats and intimidation are just part of life here."

CAIR's denial of the dangers of apostasy are part of the reason behind Mrs. Geller's campaign, which she defined as a religious-freedom issue.

"We're not encouraging people to leave Islam," she said.

Whether or not the ads actually encourage apostasy, the furor elsewhere already have received a considerable amount of negative attention from American Muslims.

"The ads are to serve a purpose - to incite Islamophobia," Mr. Walid said. "The average person here will see them for what they are."

The Dearborn educator, however, said the ads serve a positive purpose.

"This kind of campaign and Americans support of it could assure these frightened Muslims that they have the rights that every other American has, that they will be protected, not abandoned or exposed to their leaders should they act upon their desire to be free," the teacher said.

Exiled Islamist Bakri: Islam is Against Soccer World Cup

From Un:Dhimmi:
Terror-supporting Muslim cleric and fellow Islamo-loon Anjem Choudary’s ‘boss’, Lebanon-exiled Omar Bakri Mohammed, pronounces that Islam is ‘against’ the upcoming Soccer World Cup:
A HATE preacher is urging British Muslims to snub England’s bid for World Cup glory.

Bearded fanatic Omar Bakri Mohammed said the contest was evil because it “inflamed nationalism”.

And he sparked outrage by ordering Muslims to ditch the St George Cross. He even condemned Muslims who support England as “deviant and hypocrites”.

Bakri, 52, was speaking from Lebanon after being deported from Britain for inciting racial hatred.

It is feared his comments could trigger unrest when England play on June 18 against Algeria, the only Muslim state competing.

He said: “Islam is against the World Cup because it inflames nationalism. That is why we get so much hooliganism with supporters of different countries fighting each other.

“I am sure there will be some Muslims supporting England, but they are deviant and hypocrites.
“We have nothing against playing football for fun.

“But when it involves matches between countries it provokes feelings of animosity. Algeria will not be representing Islam, so Muslims should not support them either.”

He was backed by British-born extremist Anjem Choudary, 42, who has called on Muslims who fly the St George flag on their cars to rip them down.

But their comments were blasted by Football Supporters’ Federation chairman Malcolm Clarke.

He said: “The main message of the World Cup is of hope and friendship and not politics. It’s not about negativity and hatred.”
Just one more thing that Islam is ‘against’, then – all the less reason for his followers to live in Britain, the cradle of world football. Just why are they still here?

Gunmen Murder 20 in Attacks on Sect Mosques in Pakistan’s Lahore

From Bloomberg BusinessWeek:
Militants armed with guns and grenades attacked two mosques of the Ahmadi sect of Islam in the Pakistani eastern city of Lahore today, killing 20 people.

Attackers took up positions in one of the minarets of a mosque in the city’s Garhi Shahu area and threw grenades at armed policemen who tried to move in, Pakistani television channels reported from the scene. At least 30 people were injured in the twin strikes, Faisal Jalal, a spokesman for the Edhi rescue service, said by phone from Lahore.

Gunmen also hit a mosque about seven kilometers (four miles) to the south in the city’s Model Town, an upper class neighborhood where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has a home. Thousands of worshippers, including women and children, were at Friday prayers when the raids at the two mosques began, Salim Uddin, a spokesman for the community said by phone from Rabwah, a city 145 kilometers south of Lahore and the headquarters of the Ahmadi sect.

Garhi Shahu is in central Lahore, and the attack took place less than two kilometers from the official residence of the Punjab provincial governor.

The Ahmadi sect founded in Lahore in the late 1800s claims hundreds of thousands of Pakistani adherents, however Pakistani law declares them non-Muslims and extremist groups of the majority Sunni sect -- including Sipah-e-Sahaba, a Punjab-based group -- have attacked Ahmadi mosques and leaders over the past two decades.

Pakistan’s army has been fighting Taliban militants across its northwestern tribal belt since it sent 28,000 troops into the region of South Waziristan in October. The militants hit back with a string of bomb and gun attacks in major cities that killed hundreds of people.

Two suicide bombers on March 12 attacked an army convoy in Lahore, killing at least 53 people and injuring 95 in the second attack on the city in a week.

Two men wearing bombs approached vehicles in the convoy as it drove through an area where army officers live and work.

A suicide car bomb outside a police building in Lahore killed 12 people on March 8, the first attack in the city this year and ending a relative lull in raids on Pakistan’s urban centers.

57 Pakistani Hindus Convert to Islam 'Under Pressure'

From DNA (India):
ISLAMABAD: Over 50 Pakistani Hindus have converted to Islam in the Sialkot district of Punjab within a week (between May 14 and May 19) under pressure from their Muslim employers in a bid to retain their jobs and survive in the Muslim-dominated society.

As many as 35 Hindus converted to Islam on May 14, another 14 on May 17 and eight on May 19, 2010.

All the 57 Hindus who have converted belong to the Pasroor town of Sialkot.

According to some Pakistani electronic media reports, Mangut Ram, a close relative of some of the new converts, who lives in Sialkot, said that these Hindus had to embrace Islam because they were under pressure from their Muslim employers.

He said four Hindu brothers along with their families lived in the village of Nikki Pindi. Mangut Ram said that Hans Raj, Kans Raj, Meena/Kartar and Sardari Lal along with his nephews and sons worked at an eatery in Karachi.

According to Mangut Ram, his co workers often used to speak against Hindus in Karachi where his family worked. “The owner of the shop where I worked said that after a few months of his employing me the sales dropped drastically because people avoided purchasing and eating edibles prepared by Hindus. Many people opposed the large presence of Hindu employees at his shop and my boss felt pressured to change the situation,” he added.

Ram said Sardari Lal and his brother Meena/Kartar had worked at the sweets shops for several years and made a decent living that allowed them to support their families.

He said other Muslims employees of the nearby shops discriminated against them and persecuted them. The shop owner was forced to think about their future at his establishment. “That was when the two brothers and their families decided to embrace Islam in order to keep their jobs and be secure,” he added.

Ram confirmed that 13 family members of Sardari Lal, 12 members of Meena/ Kartar, their nephew Kans Raj’s son Boota Ram along with three adults and several children of these families embraced Islam on May 14, 2010.

He said that Sardari Lal’s older brothers Hans Raj and Kans Raj remained Hindus. Hans Raj too has said that he might consider converting to save his job. He said that life was ‘just easier if one was Muslim’ and he wouldn’t be discriminated against.

Ram said that 14 Hindus of the Tapiala village had embraced Islam on May 17 because they were extremely poor and could not get jobs because no one would employ the large Hindu family.

He said that another relative of his, Parkash, who lived in the village of Seowal, along with his eight family members had embraced Islam in order to save their lands.

“After embracing Islam, Parkash Ram told me that Muslim neighbours had been mistreating him and had forced him to convert,” Mangut Ram said.

Italy: Jailed Imam's Lawyer 'Amazed' at Asylum

This is an update on this story.

From Adnkronos:
Milan, 27 May (AKI) - The Italian government's decision to grant political asylum to convicted terrorist Abu Imad has astonished his defence lawyer. "I am very surprised, in fact amazed, considering the crime for which he has been convicted," said Carmelo Scambia.

The former imam at Milan's central mosque was jailed in April and will have to serve the first eight months his sentence in prison before being allowed to do community service, Scambia said.

Imad has since 12 May been held in Benevento jail in southern Italy, Adnkronos has learned. He was initially detained in Milan's San Vittore prison.

A former preacher at Milan's central mosque, Imad was arrested in April after Italy's top appeals court upheld a previous sentence and jailed him for three years and eight months.

"A press and political campaign has been going on for years against the viale Jenner mosque," said Scambia, referring to Milan's central mosque.

The mosque has been linked to Islamist terrorism several times but has so far managed to avoid closure.

Imad was granted asylum two weeks after Italy's highest court, the Court of Cassation on 28 April upheld a previous prison sentence imposed on Imad by a Milan court in December 2007.

Imad and 10 other defendants had allegedly set up a Salafite cell that was active in Milan and elsewhere in the northern Lombardy region. Imad's co-defendents were also jailed.

The cell's mission is believed to have been recruiting suicide bombers, trafficking illegal immigrants and responsible for indoctrination.

Times Square Bomb Plot: Pakistani Army Major Arrested

This is an update on this story.

From the Telegraph (UK):
A Pakistani Army major, who was until recently a serving officer, has been arrested in connection with the failed Times Square bomb plot.

Pakistani and US sources say there is evidence that mobile phone calls were exchanged between Major Adnan Ejaz and the suspected would-be bomber, Faisal Shahzad, who was arrested on May 3 as he attempted to fly out of New York.

A Pakistani law enforcement sources said that the major had mobile phone contact with Shahzad on the day of the attempted bombing, including one conversation at the same time the bomber was allegedly parking his car loaded with propane tanks and explosives.

He had also met the naturalised American in Islamabad, he claimed.

Shahzad, the son of a retired Pakistani Air Force officer, has told interrogators he received training from the Pakistan Taliban in its rugged mountain stronghold of Waziristan.

Pakistan's military and intelligence services have a long history of working with Jihadi organisations as an instrument of foreign policy.

However, the major's detention marks the first time someone in the country's military establishment has been directly linked to the Times Square plot.

In all, 11 people have been detained in Pakistan, including the co-owner of a prominent catering firm used by the US embassy in Islamabad.

They have not been arrested or charged, but they are suspected of having links to Times Square car bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad, 30, officials have said.

A Pakistani security official, speaking on condition of anonymity said the exact connections were not yet clear.

"A number of people have been detained and we believe they knew Shahzad," he said. " What we don't know is what role, if any, they had in the plot.

"There's a lot of work still to do." Of the 11 people in custody, three were detained in Karachi and the others were taken into custody in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where the Pakistani military is based.

However, a spokesman for Pakistan's military said Major Ejaz was no longer a serving officer and had been in detention at the time of the alleged calls.

"He was dismissed from the service last year and was retired," said Maj Gen Athar Abbas.

"Last month he was picked up because of apparent connections to proscribed, banned Punjabi militant organisations. So far we have not found any connection with Shahzad's case."

That account differs from the story told by relatives to local newspapers, deepening the mystery and raising fears of an official cover-up. They said he resigned from the Army last year because of money worries and had joined a construction firm.

They said he was arrested on May 14. Five days later his younger brother, a computer engineer was detained.

Obama's Counterterror Chief: Jihad is "Legitimate Tenet of Islam"

From Jihad Watch:

Willful blindness. "Counterterror Adviser Defends Jihad as 'Legitimate Tenet of Islam,'" from FOXNews.com, May 27 (thanks to all who sent this in):

The president's top counterterrorism adviser on Wednesday called jihad a "legitimate tenet of Islam," arguing that the term "jihadists" should not be used to describe America's enemies.

Why not? That's how they describe themselves. Wouldn't it be better to understand how they perceive themselves and what their motives and goals, rather than dismissing such study a priori?

During a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, John Brennan described violent extremists as victims of "political, economic and social forces," but said that those plotting attacks on the United States should not be described in "religious terms."

Why not? That's how they themselves describe them.

He repeated the administration argument that the enemy is not "terrorism," because terrorism is a "tactic," and not terror, because terror is a "state of mind" -- though Brennan's title, deputy national security adviser for counterterrorism and homeland security, includes the word "terrorism" in it. But then Brennan said that the word "jihad" should not be applied either.

Terrorism is indeed a tactic, not an opponent. I've been saying that for years. But then Brennan falls off the edge of sanity:

"Nor do we describe our enemy as 'jihadists' or 'Islamists' because jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one's community, and there is nothing holy or legitimate or Islamic about murdering innocent men, women and children," Brennan said.

Brennan should study the Qur'an and Sunnah in order to discover just how Muslims understand what it means to purify "one's community," and what the Islamic understanding is of the term "innocent." He would find, of course, that a community that is fully purified is one in which non-Muslims live as subjugated dhimmis, and that non-Muslims are never understood in the Qur'an and Sunnah as being "innocent." But he will not undertake such a study, and will never find these things out.

The technical, broadest definition of jihad is a "struggle" in the name of Islam and the term does not connote "holy war" for all Muslims. However, jihad frequently connotes images of military combat or warfare, and some of the world's most wanted terrorists including Usama bin Laden commonly use the word to call for war against the West.

It doesn't just "connote" warfare. It juridically means warfare, according to Islamic texts and teachings. There is not a single traditional school of Islamic jurisprudence that does not teach, as part of the obligation of the Muslim community, warfare against and the subjugation of unbelievers.

Shafi'i school: A Shafi'i manual of Islamic law that was certified in 1991 by the clerics at Al-Azhar University, one of the leading authorities in the Islamic world, as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy, says that "Jihad means to war against non-Muslims" ('Umdat al-Salik, o9.0).

Hanafi school: A Hanafi manual of Islamic law emphasizes that jihad is a religious war against non-believers. It insists that people must be called to embrace Islam before being fought, "because the Prophet so instructed his commanders, directing them to call the infidels to the faith." It emphasizes that jihad must not be waged for economic gain, but solely for religious reasons: from the call to Islam "the people will hence perceive that they are attacked for the sake of religion, and not for the sake of taking their property, or making slaves of their children, and on this consideration it is possible that they may be induced to agree to the call, in order to save themselves from the troubles of war."

However, "if the infidels, upon receiving the call, neither consent to it nor agree to pay capitation tax [jizya], it is then incumbent on the Muslims to call upon God for assistance, and to make war upon them, because God is the assistant of those who serve Him, and the destroyer of His enemies, the infidels, and it is necessary to implore His aid upon every occasion; the Prophet, moreover, commands us so to do." (Al-Hidayah, II.140)

Maliki school: Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406), a pioneering historian and philosopher, was also a Maliki legal theorist. In his renowned Muqaddimah, the first work of historical theory, he notes that "in the Muslim community, the holy war [jihad] is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force." In Islam, the person in charge of religious affairs is concerned with "power politics," because Islam is "under obligation to gain power over other nations."

Hanbali school: The great medieval theorist of what is commonly known today as radical or fundamentalist Islam, Ibn Taymiyya (Taqi al-Din Ahmad Ibn Taymiyya, 1263-1328), was a Hanbali jurist. He directed that "since lawful warfare is essentially jihad and since its aim is that the religion is God's entirely and God's word is uppermost, therefore according to all Muslims, those who stand in the way of this aim must be fought."

But no, for Brennan it's just al-Qaeda:

Brennan defined the enemy as members of bin Laden's Al Qaeda network and "its terrorist affiliates."

But Brennan argued that it would be "counterproductive" for the United States to use the term, as it would "play into the false perception" that the "murderers" leading war against the West are doing so in the name of a "holy cause."

Al-Azhar University, Ibn Khaldun and Ibn Taymiyya: Misunderstanders of Islam.

"Moreover, describing our enemy in religious terms would lend credence to the lie propagated by Al Qaeda and its affiliates to justify terrorism -- that the United States is somehow at war against Islam," he said.

The comment comes after Brennan, in a February speech in which he described his respect for the tolerance and devotion of Middle Eastern nations, referred to Jerusalem on first reference by its Arabic name, Al-Quds.

"In all my travels the city I have come to love most is al-Quds, Jerusalem, where three great faiths come together," Brennan said at an event co-sponsored by the White House Office of Public Engagement and the Islamic Center at New York University and the Islamic Law Students Association at NYU.

Shame on Brennan for calling it "Al-Quds," the name given it by...Islamic jihadists.

Italy Grants 'Political Asylum' to Terrorist Imam

From Adnkronos:
Rome, 27 May (AKI) - The Italian government has granted political asylum to a former imam of Milan's central mosque who was recently jailed on terrorism charges, unnamed sources in the interior ministry have told Adnkronos. Radical preacher Abu Imad was arrested in April after Italy's top appeals court upheld a previous sentence and jailed him for 44 months.

Egyptian-born Imad was granted asylum 15 days after the Court of Cassation ruling. An earlier request was turned down.

A member of the Muslim community in Italy's Lombardy surrounding Milan, Muhammad Rida al-Badri, said Italian authorities had granted asylum to Imam, who is reportedly close to Egypt's Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, to prevent him being extradited to Egypt as Cairo had requested.

"Abu Imad first asked for political asylum in Italy 17 years ago," said al-Badri.

"He has now been given political asylum because they want to keep him in jail in Italy for several reasons, and one of these is to avoid any criticism from the European Union that he should be handed over to Egypt."

Imad led prayers at Milan's central mosque until early 2009 but had not previously been arrested.

Under Italian law, suspects can remain free until they have completed their appeal, if a judge does not consider they are likely to flee the country or tamper with any evidence against them.

The Court of Cassation on 28 April upheld a previous prison sentence imposed on Imad by a Milan court in December 2007.

The court sentenced Imad to three years and eight months in prison for conspiracy to carry out a terrorist act.

Ten other people were also jailed for the same offence, receiving sentences that varied from two to 10 years, while four others were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Milan prosecutors had asked for jail terms ranging from four years and six months to 15 years for the defendants.

Imad and his co-defendants had allegedly set up a Salafite cell that was active in Milan and elsewhere in the northern Lombardy region.

The cell's mission is believed to have been recruiting suicide bombers, trafficking illegal immigrants and indoctrination.

The Viale Jenner mosque has been linked to Islamist terrorism several times but has so far managed to avoid closure, despite a July 2008 order from the government.

Muslim Woman Faces Lashes, Life in Prison For Alleged Consensual Sex

From R.E.A.L. Courage:

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), an 18 year old Muslim woman “LH” has been charged with the “crime” of consensual sex, after claiming that she was raped by 6 men. In the UAE, if a Muslim woman is found guilty of the crime of consensual sex, according to the UAE newspaper “The National,” states that she would “face lashes and a maximum sentence of life in prison.”

“LH” went to file charges against 6 men for rape after being confronted and beaten by her brother for “talking to other men.” “LH” has now withdrawn the charges of rape, after being charged with the criminal charge of “consensual sex.” It is up to the court to decide whether to drop the criminal charge of “consensual sex,” or reduce the criminal charge to “deception” which carries a prison sentence of 6 months to two years.

The report by the National newspaper in UAE states that none of the charges have been dropped at this time. The report describes court proceedings of a case where a man allegedly consensual sex with “LH,” then called five of his male friends to rape “LH.” One of the accused rapists, a 19 year old man, laughed at “LH” as she pleaded with the judge to allow her to drop the rape charges.

See the complete news report by the National Newspaper.

The National newspaper also released an editorial on May 18, 2010 “Rape victims are not the criminals,” which stated that “The case is not unprecedented: when a woman reports rape or other abuse, she frequently finds herself in further trouble… More than half of the women who responded to a survey for The National earlier this year said they would not report a rape to police, not only out of shame but also out of distrust of the system itself.”

In January 2010, Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) reported on a 23 year old British Muslim woman who was raped and then charged with the crime of “illegal sex” and put in jail. On April 21, 2010, the Daily Telegraph reported on the case of British woman Charlotte Adams who was convicted of the crime of “indecency” for giving someone a kiss on the cheek, and was sentenced to jail for one month and fined.

In March 2010, Epoch Times reported on the case of an Australia woman Amanda who was raped, and then was convicted of “adultery” and jailed for 12 months. The report quoted another National newspaper interview with a UK rape counselor that “there was ‘no bigger deterrent’ to coming forward to make a rape allegation than the fear of a potential prosecution.” Human Rights Watch’s Nadya Khalife has criticized the UAE on its “shameful record on rape.”

According to the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), “some women’s rights advocates argue that as along as UAE legislates through a personal status code and gender discrimination is built into citizenship laws, women cannot have full rights.” Time Out Dubai recently reported that only 25 percent of Emirati women work due to discrimination and social pressures against women in the workplace....

Terror Attacks Against U.S. At All-Time High

From ABC News (United States):
DHS Report Says Pace May Increase And Include More Homegrown Extremists

The pace and number of attempted terror attacks against the U.S. over the past nine months has surpassed the number of attempts during any previous one-year period, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security report issued on Friday, May 21.

The report notes chillingly that while US officials "lack insights" they believe that "operatives are in the country and could advance plotting with little or no warning."

The DHS "Intelligence Note," a short, non-classified report, makes concrete the concerns of a number of homeland security experts who have discussed with ABC News the pace and nature of the individual attempts. The report notes that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and the Pakistani Taliban have "expanded their focus" to include the United States.

Homeland Security and law enforcement officials interviewed by ABC News on the condition their names not be used are concerned that the pace will continue to ramp up and that increasingly the attackers will be difficult-to-detect homegrown extremists.

"Recent attempted attacks and plots in the United States progressed to an advanced stage largely because of these groups' ability to use operatives that have access and familiarity with the U.S. and their employment of new and varied attack plans," the three-page note concludes.

"Public statements highlighting group leaders' intent to strike … and probable terrorist perception of success in challenging the U.S. even through failed attacks, suggest al Qaeda and associated groups will try to conduct operations in the United States with increased frequency."

The attacks included the alleged May 1 attempt by Faisal Shahzad to detonate a car bomb in Times Square and the attempted Christmas Eve bombing of a Northwest Airlines Flight 253 by a suspect who managed to carry high powered explosives aboard the aircraft concealed in his underwear. In each attempt, U.S. intelligence failed to detect and prevent the attacks and it was only through failures in the construction of the improvised explosive devices that the attacks did not cause mass causalities.

More worrisome even that these attacks -- both of which involve suspects who allegedly spent time at terror camps abroad -- is the possibility, states the DHS document, of "an attack strategy that does not rely on outside support or travel abroad," which "diminishes opportunities for discovery and disruption."

The DHS document also warns that both the Northwest 253 and Times Square incidents, like attempts several prior successful and attempted attacks, featured a link between the terror suspects and radical Muslim cleric Anwar Awlaki, who was born in the U.S. but is now based in Yemen. The charismatic preacher, called by the report a "violent extremist ideologue," is now the subject of a widely reported manhunt by the US in an effort to kill him. It is a highly unusual measure for the U.S. to take against a U.S. born target.

In the eyes of a number of U.S. officials, Awlaki has become at least as powerful as Osama bin Laden in his ability to inspire attempts to attack the U.S. homeland. On March 17th, the DHS report notes, Awlaki "urged all Muslims to conduct 'jihad' against America and praised the actions of accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. Hasan, who is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder in the November spree, which killed 13 at a Texas Army base, was in touch with Awlaki by email repeatedly prior to the assault.

Aceh's Religious Police Crack Down On Tight Jeans

From the Sydney Morning Herald (Australia):
''LET me ask you a question,'' says the regent of West Aceh, Ramli Mansur, leaning back in his chair in his spacious office. ''What do you think when you see a woman's round shapes?''

''Rather nice, I suppose,'' I reply. ''But it wouldn't make me feel like raping anyone.''

''Aah, but that's because you are used to it!''

Mr Ramli's dismissive response was hardly surprising. The former member of Aceh's independence movement, school teacher and traditional Islamic healer is on a mission to implement perhaps the most austere form of sharia seen in Indonesia, and his first concern is the appearance of his district's 85,000-odd women.

Starting today, he will begin distributing 20,000 long skirts, a campaign to stop women wearing trousers. While almost all women in Aceh wear the jilbab, or headscarf, many follow the Indonesian fashion for tight jeans, even if they are worn modestly under a tunic.

''Obviously, there is a problem with sexy dressing,'' Mr Ramli explains. ''We see that rapes take place in big cities where free access is allowed between different sexes. Here the economy is small and we don't want it to be like that.''

Even before the policy is introduced, West Aceh's Wilayatul Hisbah, or religious police, have been setting up roadblocks outside the district's capital of Meulaboh, inspecting every car and stopping motorcycles if there is a female rider on board wearing trousers.

In a 60-minute operation in the hamlet of Arongan, more than 25 women were yesterday taken aside for a lecture on Islamic morals and asked to sign a document, vowing not to repeat their mistake and pledging to ''immediately report'' to the religious police if they notice someone else violating Islamic law.

Some women are upset by the intrusion, with one storming back to her vehicle. And conversations with young West Acehnese in Meulaboh's cafes elicit a similar anger. Almost all of the jeans-clad women have been pulled over, or know someone who has.

They are proud Muslims but find the religious police tiresome, at best.

''A lot of our friends go to Medan [in nearby north Sumatra] so they can wear tight jeans,'' said one waitress. ''You can't even wear jeans under your skirt here. We are very confused about these regulations.''

Others, however, are more enthusiastic.

A middle-aged woman watching proceedings at Arongan, who also declined to be named, said: ''I really agree because teenagers today are very stubborn. They don't follow advice from parents and this program helps.''

The responses reflect Aceh's conflicted approach to sharia. Known as ''Mecca's Verandah'' for its early adoption of Islam, Aceh has had sharia, complete with police and courts, for eight years.

Adultery and gambling are punishable by public caning while offences such as dressing inappropriately or unmarried people fraternising with the opposite sex meet with stern lectures or a requirement to report regularly to sharia authorities for further instruction.

But, since the Governor, Irwandi Yusuf, took office in 2007 the laws have been rarely enforced. Very few public floggings have taken place in the past three years and Mr Irwandi has cut the budget to the sharia police and refused to sign a law passed by the legislature introducing death by stoning for married adulterers.

He also wrote to Mr Ramli urging him not to proceed with his skirt distribution plan, but was openly rebuffed.

''Yes, it's true. But what we are doing is in accordance of law,'' said Mr Ramli, who is diverting money from his own budget to double the size of the religious police.

And, as his district prepares for the public caning of 26 people in coming months, Mr Ramli is contemplating a run for governor.

Sex and The City 2 Movie Banned in UAE

This is in relation to this story.

From R.E.A.L. Courage:

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Media Council has decided that the new movie “Sex and the City 2″ will be banned from being shown in UAE cinemas. The movie is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2010.

A senior spokesman for the UAE National Media Council told Time Out Dubai that: “Sex and the City 2 will be banned from being shown in cinemas across the UAE when it is released for various reasons. Among them are that the film’s website stated that filming was done in Abu Dhabi even though they were denied permission to do so and that they continue to attribute the locations shot in Morocco as being in Abu Dhabi, which is false, as the theme of the film does not fit with our cultural values. Also, they persisted in using Abu Dhabi’s name in the movie despite the fact that no official permission was given to them to do so.”

The UAE National Media Council is responsible for judging movies to be shown in the UAE, as well as censoring films. The UAE National Media Council censorship board has approved showing of films such as “The Da Vinci Code,” however.

While the story in the movie “Sex and the City 2″ purportedly takes place in the UAE, it was not filmed in the UAE, as the UAE government also forbid filmmakers from shooting the movie in the UAE. It was filmed in Morocco instead. However, despite refusing to allow the film to be made in the UAE, and banning showing of the movie in the UAE, analysts believe that the UAE city of Abu Dhabai will get a tourism boost from the showing of the film.

The writer and director of the movie, Michael Patrick King, told Collider.com that the reason for choosing UAE and its city Abu Dhabi for the movie setting was because “it’s the new Middle East and the future… I think there’s a very big story in the Middle East and it also is a very advanced, glamorous capital.”

While the movie was being banned in its “setting,” the UAE — in Hollywood, it was being described as an “anti-Muslim” movie, by the Hollywood Reporter. The Hollywood Reporter’s review of the movie stated that “[Carrie] and her friends run up against the puritanical and misogynistic culture of the Middle East… The rather scathing portrayal of Muslim society no doubt will stir controversy, especially in a frothy summer entertainment, but there’s something bracing about the film’s saucy political incorrectness. Or is it politically correct? SATC 2 is at once proudly feminist and blatantly anti-Muslim, which means that it might confound liberal viewers.”

Others reviewers have also been critical of the movie regarding women and Islam. USA Today’s Claudia Ping states that “director Michael Patrick King is out of his league attempting to comment on the inequitable treatment of Muslim women,” Roger Ebert criticizes the movie for being “oblivious to Arab ideas about women’s modesty,” and another reviewer states that “‘Sex and the Ctiy 2′ script insults Muslim culture.”

Entertainment Online (E Online)’s Leslie Gornstein’s comments on the movie indicate that she is shocked that the movie is intended to “take place in a Muslim country,” adding that “at least a few Muslims wondering what the filmmakers were thinking.” E Online also quotes the Council of American Islam Relations (CAIR)’s Ibrahim Hooper as stating that “I thought the location was a bit odd for that kind of movie.” (The CAIR organization has been listed as one of the unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial.)

The movie is being released as yet another high-profile UAE prosecution of a woman for alleged sexual “crimes” is in the news. The latest in a long series of UAE oppressive criminal prosecutions is the arrest of an 18 year old girl, who stated that she was a gang rape victim. The Muslim girl “LH” was then charged with the crime of “consensual sex,” which carries a sentence of lashes and up to life imprisonment for a Muslim girl. “LH” has since retracted her rape charges and the UAE government prosecution is considering whether to continue to prosecute her for the crime of “consensual sex,” or reduce the criminal charge to “deception” which carries a prison sentence of 6 months to two years.

In March 2010, the UAE government convicted an Australian woman who was a rape victim of “adultery,” and sentenced her to 12 months in prison. In January 2010, the UAE government arrested and jailed a 23 year old British woman who was a victim of rape, and charged her with “illegal sex.”

In April 2010, a British woman, Charlotte Adams, was put in jail for one month for alleged giving someone a kiss on the cheek in public for the crime of “indecency.”

Sweden’s Integration Minister Upset About Forced ‘Marriage’ in Malmo

From Vlad Tepes:
The Swedish authorities seem to be noticing some of the more illiberal aspects to their multicultural paradise. The following is a machine translation from this Swedish newspaper.

While its a tad rough, you will get the idea. Sooner or later, even the Swedes had to notice that Islam will clash with any other notion of basic human rights and the dignity and person-hood of women.
We Want to Stop Forced Marriages
TYRANNY We note that honor repression has been accused of racism, but forced marriages exist in Sweden. (FP). Therefore, the government presents today a new strategy to prevent young are married against their will, writes Nyamko Sabuni (PF).

A girl in Malmö was married when she was in fifth grade. She was twelve years old. The following year she started in sixth grade. Still too young to drive a moped, see adult films at the cinema or even get the scores. By that time she lived with her husband and gave birth to her first child. This was depicted in a series of articles about forced marriages in Sydsvenska Dagbladet. At least 25 high school girls Scanian was reported to be married every summer, but that the community responded.

It has long been lacking a solid knowledge of forced marriage in Sweden. Those of us who warned of honor repression has been questioned. Like when the Socialist government investigators Masoud Kamali accused us of fomenting racism.

But culture relative addicts can no longer deny that this oppression affects thousands of young people. A number of institutions on behalf of the Government reported on the prevalence of violence and oppression. According to the Youth Board, there are at least 70 000 young people who feel that parents, religion and culture set limits on who they can marry.

In two studies (Socialstyrelsen Stockholm University in 2007 and 2009) found that among young people living with limitations related to marriage are those who are vulnerable to psychological and physical violence by parents or other relatives. A review of county court judgments, which were seized as young as a result of, for example, domestic violence, shows that one third of all convictions in 2007 were girls (who) were (victims of) honor (related crimes). Most had been victims of violence by relatives, sometimes for years. Half had been threatened to death. Almost all had received themselves take the initiative to seek help.

The picture is alarming. Today the government decides on a strategy for continued work to prevent young people are married against their will. The focus is on strengthening prevention, support and protection, improved collaboration between agencies and increased knowledge.

• Protection against forced marriages and child marriages are tightened. Investigator of Justice Goran Lambertz Council, has been asked to suggest how including forced marriages and child marriages may be criminalized.

• Rehabilitation of the victims of honor crimes. Children who are disposed to honor because of repression may have been victims of violence for a long time. They could be threatened by the family and relatives during the time they are placed in special housing. The government will decide whether to develop a guide for support and rehabilitation of children and young people who are victims of honor related violence or oppression. Support for the girls who seek There are girls who feel intense pressure to prove they have not had sexual intercourse before the wedding night. Therefore, looking for some help in clinical care. My starting point is that these girls need help and support but it is not the way to offer health care operations. In order to assure the quality of the hospitality of these girls is the National Centre for women’s safety given the task of developing a manual for health care.

• National public awareness campaign. Children and young people should have knowledge of their rights and the ways in which authorities and NGOs are working to strengthen their rights. The government will decide on a national information campaign targeted at young people in secondary schools in order to prevent and avoid exposure to violence and oppression.

'Sex and the City 2' Movie Glorifies Misogynistic Arab Society

This is an excellent op-ed by Kyle Smith for the New York Post:
As tasteless as an Arabian cathouse, as worn-out as your 1998 flip-flops and as hideous as the mom jeans Carrie wears with a belly-baring gingham top, “Sex and the City 2” is two of the worst movies of the year.

The transformation of the girls from winsome wisecrackers into whiny bling-obsessed chuckleheads is complete.

After an endless 20-minute prologue at a gay wedding where Liza Minnelli croaks out “Single Ladies,” Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) complains that her hubby (Chris Noth) puts his feet on the furniture, watches too much TV and won’t go to parties — then throws a fit when, at a premiere, he chats up Penelope Cruz.

Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) remains a corporate bore while Charlotte (Kristin Davis) frets, for no reason, that her husband might have an affair with their hot Irish nanny and bursts into tears when her daughter stains her Valentino skirt — while making muffins. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) gripes about hitting menopause, as 53-year-old women so often do, yet finds herself swarmed by muscled hotties.

She soothes everyone with a free trip to an Abu Dhabi resort where the rooms are worth

$22 grand a night. Carrie actually delivers the line, “Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore!” and writer-director Michael Patrick King’s pun dependence becomes as unbearable as the gilt décor. “I’m going to turn this inter-friend-tion into an inter-fun-tion!” ... “Bedouin, bath and beyond” ... Blah, Blah, Blahnik.

The girls aren’t interested in anything except shopping, drinking and strutting through the desert in slo-mo, but what’s most appalling is that they vamp to “I Am Woman” in this land of sand Nazis. A veil “cuts back on the Botox bill!” chirps Samantha. Har. In Abu Dhabi husbands can legally beat their wives — and Carrie thinks this place is Oz, a cure for her boredom with a zillionaire husband who, she complains, eats too much takeout. (She won’t cook because she’s more “Coco Chanel than Coq au vin.” Waiter: one divorce, please).

Complications? Carrie loses her passport when distracted by shoes. (Did Lindsay Lohan contribute to this script?) We nearly lose Charlotte when she chases a watch. Native women bond with our heroines — over shared love for the books of Suzanne Somers. A major problem gets solved in the end when Carrie gets more jewelry.

Despite its “Lawrence of Arabia” length, this film — the Sexless and the Self-Pitying — is as unfunny and shapeless as another famed desert epic. Just think of it as “Bitchtar.”

Terrorism: Failed 'US bomber' in Al-Qaeda Video

From Adnkronos:
Rome, 26 May (AKI) - The Nigerian man accused of a failed attempt to blow up a US passenger jet in December last year is featured in a new Al-Qaeda video released on Wednesday. Footage of Umar al-Farouk Abdulmutallab, who is currently in US custody facing terrorism charges, is included in the documentary-style video posted on jihadist websites.

He is accused of attempting to blow up a passenger jet above Detroit on 25 December 2009.

The 54-minute documentary also features former Guantanamo prisoner, Uthman al-Ghamdi, and Fahd al-Quso, a suspect in the 2000 USS Cole bomb attack, SITE intelligence reported.

Seventeen American sailors were killed, and 39 were injured in the suicide attack against the USS Cole in the Yemeni port of Aden in the deadliest attack against a US naval vessel since 1987.

The video, released by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, focuses on what it sees as American intervention in Yemen and the US role in airstrikes on suspected Al-Qaeda camps.

One of the leaders from the Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Anwar al-Awlaqi, last month claimed he had trained Abdulmutallab .

Al-Awlaqi also claimed he had trained radical Islamist Nidal Hassan, an American doctor of Palestinian descent who in November 2009 shot dead 13 people and wounded 30 others at the Fort Hood US military base in Texas.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula was founded in January 2009 by a merger between two regional offshoots of the Islamist militant network in neighbouring Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

The group has vowed to attack oil facilities, foreigners and security forces as it seeks to topple the Saudi monarchy and the Yemeni government, and establish an Islamic caliphate in in the region.

Two Italian Retail Chains Kowtow to Palestinian Jihad, Suspend Sale of Israeli Products

From Jihad Watch:
Two Italian retail chains look back nostalgically to the days when Jewish businesses were labeled as such and shunned by Nazis and those who feared them. "Mideast: Frattini, Coop-Conad Initiative Dangerous and Racist," from ANSAmed, May 26 (thanks to Insubria):
(ANSAmed) WASHINGTON, MAY 26 - An initiative that "introduces an extremely dangerous element of racism in the market dynamics", said Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini from Washington, regarding the decision of Coop and Conad - two Italian large-scale retail chains - to suspend the sale of some fruit and vegetable products from the occupied Palestinian Territories, of which the exact origin has not been established. The Minister continued that this is a "dangerous and hasty initiative" which "groups political and economic questions and damages the development of the entire area. Choosing a product on its origins and not its quality could lead to racist dynamics", particularly in this case, "in which the case involves Israeli products, because they are Jews". Frattini underlines that "tens of thousands of Palestinians work in the occupied Territories, therefore this initiative could have an impact on the local economy which gives work to the Palestinians". According to the Minister, what we should do is "continue to increase our efforts for peace". (ANSAmed).

Genocide Girl’s Chutzpah

This an update on this story and an op-ed by Robert Spencer for Front Page Magazine:
Questioned by David Horowitz, Jumanah Albahri, a Muslim student (and Muslim Student Association member) at the University of California at San Diego, recently endorsed a new genocide of Jews – thereby giving voice to the real agenda behind the land-for-peace rhetoric that Palestinian spokesmen generally retail in America.

Aware of the enormity of what she had admitted, Albahri tried to quell the controversy by issuing a statement full of evasions, half-truths, and claims that she was the true victim. Now she has compounded that with a letter to the UCSD student newspaper, the Guardian, complaining about biased press coverage!

Whatever else you can say about Jumanah Albahri, you’ve got to admit she’s got chutzpah.

The new letter is a tour de force of self-righteous victimhood, demonstrating that Albahri has been a dutiful and attentive student of her Islamic supremacist and Leftist mentors, since both camps make such liberal use of this tactic. She begins with a double ad hominem, as the girl who endorsed genocide of the Jews complained that the Guardian’s “abysmal coverage of Justice in Palestine Week and the Horowitz fiasco reeks of Hearstian and Horowitzian journalism.”

Hearstian, i.e., yellow journalism a la William Randolph Hearst. Horowitzian, as in David Horowitz, the man who exposed her as a proponent of organized mass murder. Jumanah would have us believe that the real villain is Horowitz, whom we are to see as an irresponsible yellow journalist, not the girl who endorsed genocide. For Jumanah herself is a poor victim of biased reporting: she complains that the Guardian didn’t quote her statement that purports to clarify her pro-genocide remarks: “My opinion of Hamas is not as simple as condemn or condone, for it or against it. I firmly believe that the killing of civilians, even as collateral damage regardless of creed, politics, sexuality, nationality or ethnicity is one of the highest crimes in the eyes of God and is morally reprehensible and abhorrent.”

High-sounding words, but empty ones without an explicit avowal that Jumanah Albahri includes Israeli civilians in her definition of civilian. For many jihadists have declared that there are no civilians in Israel, and that consequently every Israeli citizen was a military target. Jumanah Albahri is probably aware of this, since it is not a fringe view among supporters of the Palestinian cause, and so she could have done her own cause a favor by spelling this out – unless, of course, she preferred to leave it ambiguous.

Albahri then goes on to make a claim about Hamas that is flatly false: “Hamas,” she says, “(regardless of its designation as a terrorist organization by Israel and the U.S.) is neither genocidal nor Holocaust-denying.” Yet Hamas’s Al-Aqsa TV in 2008 featured a Muslim cleric, Sa‘d Abu Jleidan, saying that the jihad against the Jews would continue “until their annihilation.” She claims that Hamas “calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state where people of all religions can coexist in peace” – yet the Hamas Charter contains an epigraph from the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hasan al-Banna: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” Albahri doesn’t mention that the Jews that would remain in the Palestinian state that Hamas envisions would not be equal citizens, but subjugated dhimmis, in accord with classic strictures of Islamic law that Hamas spokesmen have spoken about wanting to revive.

The Jumanah turns on David Horowitz with more empty ad hominens, claiming that he was “not invited to present any argument or engage in constructive dialogue — rather, he was brought because of his reputation for racism and hatemongering against Arabs and Muslims.” And the primary victim of this racism and hatemongering? Why, Jumanah Imad Albahri herself, of course: “If anyone can claim alienation or marginalization, it’s me. For the university to allow him to set foot on my campus using my student fees is a slap in my face and a slap in the face of all other non-Jewish minorities on this campus. Need more proof? Google this article: ‘Guns Don’t Kill Black People, Other Blacks Do.’ Tell me: Who needs to apologize now?”

Uh, that would still be the girl who endorsed genocide, Jumanah.

But no, for her it is all the fault of the Jewish-controlled media, that ever-present invention of Nazi and Palestinian paranoia: “The voices of the Palestinian people have been silenced by the mainstream media for too long,” Jumanah asserts, “and I refuse to silence my own voice to appease the twisted politics of the pro-Israel communities on and off campus.”

Clearly Jumanah Albahri’s voice is not silenced. The more she talks, however, the more her allies and supporters may wish it were.

Donkey Detonated on Gaza Border

This is yet more contempt for life, even animal life, from the Arab Muslims in Gaza.

From the J-Post:
Animal dead, no human casualties; 200 kg of dynamite heaped on cart.

A small Syrian-backed terrorist group in Gaza said its activists blew up a donkey cart laden with explosives close to the border with Israel on Tuesday, killing the animal but causing no human casualties.

Abu Ghassan, spokesman for the terrorist group, said more than 200 kilograms of dynamite were heaped on the animal-drawn cart. He added that the explosives were detonated 60 meters from the concrete security barrier that separates the territory from Israel.

The donkey was killed in the blast, but there were no reports of human casualties. Israeli troops routinely patrol the border, and impoverished Gazans often gather rubble in the area.

The Israeli military confirmed the blast, but had no further comment. The IDF said Gaza terrorists also fired two mortar shells into Israel on Tuesday, which fell in the Netiv Ha'asara area without causing damage or casualties.

Earlier this week, masked gunmen from an Islamist group torched a UN-run summer camp for children and teens in Gaza.

The head of UNRWA in Gaza, John Ging, said the assailants tied up the guard, burned tents and vandalized bathrooms at the campgrounds. UN officials said the attackers left behind three bullets and a note threatening to kill Ging and others unless the UN cancels its activities for some 250,000 Gaza children.

Two days before the incident, the previously unknown "The Free of the Homeland" group issued a statement criticizing the camp's organizer, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), for "teaching schoolgirls fitness, dancing and immorality."

Raped Girl and Family in Pakistan Forced to Flee Town

From Compass Direct News:
GUJRANWALA, Pakistan, May 25 (CDN) — A Christian who accused a Muslim of raping his 12-year-old daughter has fled his town in Punjab Province with his family following death threats and police pressure to drop the case.

Citing “continuous threats” to take his life, Zafar Masih left Gujranwala’s predominantly Muslim town of Nai Abadi Tatlay Aali within 10 days of accusing Ali Ahmed, a 28-year-old businessman, of beating and raping his daughter on May 12.

His daughter, whose name was withheld, told Compass that her employer, Ahmed, beat and raped her when she went to his home, where she worked as a house servant. When she arrived she was surprised to find him at home in his room, she said.

“He grabbed my hair and asked me to sleep with him,” she said, amid tears. “I refused to let him have sexual relations with me, which enraged him.”

Her body marred with bruises, she said he tore her clothes and she screamed, but no one else was in the home to hear her.

“Ali Ahmed overpowered me, and all my efforts were futile even though I strained with all my energy to stop him,” she said. “After getting stigmatized, I was threatened with dire consequences and the slaying of my whole family if I told about the rape.”

The oldest of four children, she fled the house and immediately sent her younger brother to call her father, who was working in a nearby field, she said.

Masih, her father, said he immediately went to Tatlay Aali police station and submitted an application to file a First Information Report against Ahmed. Station House Officer Inspector Iqbal Ojjhra refused, he said, and began to pressure him to withdraw the application.

A powerful local politician along with the area’s largest land owner, Imtiyaz Kharral, have since threatened to maim or kill him, Masih said.

“I declined to withdraw my application, though I was being immensely pressured by both the leading Muslim men,” Masih said. “And Inspector Ojjhra had a new alibi every day for not registering the case.”

Inspector Ojjhra denied all allegations against him. He told Compass that he declined to register a rape case because he did not want to harm the Christian girl’s dignity, so instead he had recommended trying to resolve the conflict in a public gathering or “punchayat.”

Arif Masih, a Nai Abadi Tatlay Aali representative for local Christians, told Compass that the next evening, May 13, Kharral called a meeting at his farmhouse with Inspector Ojjhra, local Muslims and a contingent of police officers. Also summoned were Zafar Masih and his children, Arif Masih and the other Christian families of the town.

“At Imtiyaz Kharral’s farmhouse gathering, none of the Christians were allowed to speak or express their opinion,” said Arif Masih, who said the wealthy land owner considered himself the head of the town. “Even I being representative of the Christians was not allowed to speak for [Zafar Masih’s daughter] or put forward the demands of the Christians.”

Only Kharral spoke, saying that there were only two options – Zafar Masih could withdraw his rape charge, or he and the other Christian families in Nai Abadi Tatlay Aali could relocate elsewhere.

“He ignored the fact that the girl would have to live her whole life with this irrecoverable loss and stigma,” Arif Masih said. “I was totally helpless in this showdown, because Imtiyaz Kharral and Ali Ahmed have the favor of the local police head, Iqbal Ojjhra.”

Khalid Gill, chairman of the Christian Lawyers Foundation (CLF), condemned the dismissive police attitude toward marginalized Christians. He suggested that the chief justice of the Lahore High Court take suo moto action against the suspect, his associates and police officers as responsible for mental anguish of the area Christians.

Tahir Naveed Chaudhary, a Christian member of Punjab’s legislative assembly, also denounced the alleged rape and pledged to extend legal and financial support to the family of Zafar Masih.

Most of the area Christians are construction laborers, sanitation workers and domestic servants working for daily wages. Zafar Masih said he could not afford to educate his children because he was living close to poverty level.

“My eldest daughter worked as a maidservant for a monthly salary of 500 rupees [less than US$6] to lend a hand,” he said. “We Christians in Pakistan have no life even dogs live better life than us.”

15 Killed in Baghdad Gold Market Robbery

From the Los Angeles Times (U.S.):
Gunmen flee with gold. Security officials blame Al Qaeda in Iraq, which is known to fund its operations in part through such crime.

Masked gunmen killed 15 people in a daring daytime robbery Tuesday, blasting their way into a Baghdad street of goldsmiths and shooting customers and storekeepers before fleeing with armfuls of gold.

Security officials quickly blamed the brazen midday attack in the southwestern neighborhood of Bayaa on the Sunni militant Al Qaeda in Iraq, which is known to at least partially fund its operations through extortion and crime in the cities of Baghdad and Mosul.

Witnesses said 15 to 20 gunmen, wearing scarves over their faces and using pistols fitted with silencers, took part in the raid. The thieves blocked the street with their vehicles and threw grenades as they moved among the stores, smashing windows and grabbing cash and jewelry.

On a street dotted with pools of blood and piles of broken glass, residents wondered how the gang had managed to launch such a well-organized attack in an area surrounded by blast walls and many checkpoints.

"There are checkpoints, how could they carry this out?" asked Abu Shahad, 28, a resident of the street. "Surely they must have some senior figure in the government supporting them."

Authorities immediately said they had detained the security officials responsible for the area on suspicion of negligence and had also detained two suspected assailants. Two policemen who raced to the scene were injured, and officials said one of the gunmen was killed.

Goldsmiths are a common target in Baghdad, and there have been several similar raids over the last year in which at least 20 goldsmiths and passersby have died.

The government has recently claimed big successes in the battle against Al Qaeda in Iraq, with dozens of middle- and top-level leaders detained or killed, including the organization's two top leaders, who were slain in a raid by Iraqi and U.S. forces in April. Two recently arrested Al Qaeda leaders, an Algerian and a Saudi, confessed last week to participating in a number of robberies of jewelry stores, a prominent currency exchange dealer and a bank to fund the group's activities, police said.

But the biggest heist of the last year, in which about $4 million was stolen from a Baghdad bank, was found to have been committed by the guards of one of Iraq's two vice presidents, Adel Abdul Mehdi. The money was recovered in offices belonging to a newspaper run by his political party.

Muslim Wedding Participants Desecrate Church

From ASSIST News Service:
Several Pakistani Muslims who recently participated in the marriage ceremony organized by a well-to-do Muslim man, allegedly heavily drank alcohol, vomited and then ransacked and desecrated a nearby church.

ANS has learned that the situation escalated at St. Mary’s Church, located in St Mary’s Christian Colony Gullberg III, Lahore, after a local affluent Muslim man, on April 27th, requested Salamat Masih Bhatti, Chairman of the St. Mary’s Church Committee, to rent out to him the Church’s community hall for the wedding ceremony of his relative.

There are almost 500 Christian homes at St Mary’s Christian Colony, ANS learnt and Bhatti maintained that residents of St Mary’s Colony had pooled funds and with that, they had constructed a small but beautiful worship place to pray and praise Jesus Christ.

He said that, with the consent of all the church committee members, it was unanimously decided to rent out the hall “for the wedding ceremony only” on condition that they did not “drink or play vulgar music in the holy Christian place of prayer and worship”.

But the guests, ANS has learnt, did not comply with the principle and violated the rule by drinking and dancing in the Church hall, which is taboo according to Islamic teachings and traditions of Pakistan.

The church committee unsuccessfully tried to stop the drunken wedding participants enter the church and desecrate it. The men apparently then hurled threats of dire consequences and death on Christians in case the church committee members tried to approach the police.

Miraj Masih told ANS that they submitted an application for the registration of a case against the wealthy Muslim and his guests at the local police station, but to no avail.

“At last we decided to record our protest in front of a private new television namely; Express TV”, Assistant Pastor of the Church Rev. Mubarik Masih said. “Express News TV recorded our protest and slogans but after immense political pressure from the wealthy Muslim, they decided not to broadcast it.”

Bhatti added that the wealthy Muslim had pressured the Rev. Masih to withdraw his application for a case to be brought against the rich Muslim him and other guests and they (the police) had failed to provide justice and security to the local Christians.

Khalid Gill, the President of the Christian Lawyers’ Foundation (CLF) and the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) condemned the show-down against Christians which he said were “considered soft religious and socio-economic targets in Pakistan”.

Gill said that hapless Church committee had no choice but to withdraw the application in the best interest of all the Christian residents of St Mary’s Colony and St Mary’s Church, Lahore.

Ferhan Mazher, Chairman of “Rays of Development Organization”, a Christian rights and advocacy group, said if the situation would have been vice versa the Muslims would have torched, gutted and reduced to ashes the whole Christian colony.

Robert Spencer: State Department Endorses Islamic Law

This is an excellent op-ed by Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch for Human Events:
Last Thursday was “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day,” and Muslims, predictably, are outraged. Thousands of Pakistanis demonstrated against the drawings of Muhammad, and the Pakistani government shut down access to Facebook and YouTube to prevent its citizens from seeing the offending images. (Interestingly enough, images of beheadings and suicide bombings have never given rise to similar acts of censorship anywhere in the Islamic world.)

Since then, several Facebook sites have sprung up announcing an “Everybody Draw the Holocaust Day,” in the mistaken view that anyone in the West will react as strongly to mockery as Muslims will. And the Obama State Department is doing all it can to soothe offended Muslim sensibilities. Assistant Secretary of State Philip J. Crowley said Thursday: “Obviously, this is a difficult and challenging issue. Many of the images that appear today on Facebook were deeply offensive to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.”

Pakistan’s Daily Times added: “The U.S. State Department also expressed respect for any actions that need to be taken under Pakistani law to protect their citizens from offensive speech, but expected a balance between restricting offensive material and ensuring flow of information for the Internet users.”

Did the U.S. State Department ever condemn Andres Serrano’s “artwork” that consisted of a crucifix submerged in a jar of urine, or Chris Ofili’s dung-encrusted portrait of the Virgin Mary? Of course not. The Obama Administration only moved to condemn the cartoons of Muhammad because of the anti-free speech campaign of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which kicked into high gear in 2006 in response to the original Danish cartoons of Muhammad.

That campaign is an attempt to compel the West to criminalize criticism of Islam. In 2008, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu issued a warning in terms that made it clear that he knew which party was in charge, and which was in the position of accepting orders: “We sent a clear message to the West regarding the red lines that should not be crossed” regarding free speech about Islam and terrorism. And he reported success: “The official West and its public opinion are all now well aware of the sensitivities of these issues. They have also started to look seriously into the question of freedom of expression from the perspective of its inherent responsibility, which should not be overlooked.”
And now the State Department has acted fully in compliance with this dictation. In response to “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day,” the Obama Administration has demonstrated that violence and intimidation work—which only ensures that we will see more of it.

In calling for a “balance between restricting offensive material and ensuring flow of information for the Internet users,” the State Department was trying to have it both ways: condemning the cartoons while offering a weak, fig-leaf defense of the freedom of speech. But issued in the context of deploring and denouncing the cartoons, all this statement amounted to was a call for self-censorship.

Self-censorship is something we all do all the time, in innumerable contexts: If everyone always said what he thought, there would be a lot more broken relationships and lost jobs. But politeness and respect are not what are at issue here. The point of publishing cartoons of Muhammad nowadays is not to cause offense, although they certainly do that. The key fact is that the cartoons arouse in Muslims not only murderous rage but attempts to restrict the freedom of speech through legal avenues. As such, self-censorship amounts only to self-imposed dhimmitude, and to acquiescence to the supremacy and rule of Sharia—Islamic law.

That's why the Muhammad cartoons published last week all over the Internet were not a stunt, not a joke, not a raspberry to anyone, not an exercise in obnoxiousness or gratuitous offense. They are, rather, the foremost battleground in the defense of the freedom of speech today. Every newspaper in the country should be printing them today, to show they are not cowed and will defend free speech. The State Department should be explaining what I am explaining now. Instead, they bowed no less unmistakably than did Obama to the Saudi King.

Sex and the City 2 Blasted As "anti-Muslim" for depicting Muslim Society As "Puritanical and Misogynistic"

From Jihad Watch:
When they're bashing the moral laxity of the West, it's OK to be puritanical. When Westerners notice that Islamic society is puritanical, it is an act of "Islamophobia." Nonetheless, Muslims are enraged yet again, this time because of this film's depiction of Islamic society as "puritanical and misogynistic." And really, I must say I'm outraged as well. I mean, who would ever have thought to characterize Islamic society in such a way? The hijab, the niqab, the burqa, the chador -- puritanical? Perish the thought! The wife-beating (cf. Qur'an 4:34), the polygamy (Qur'an 4:3), the genital mutilation, the honor killing -- misogynistic? What are you, some kind of Islamophobe?

"Sex And The City 2 Blasted As 'Anti-Muslim,'" from SkyNews, May 25 (thanks to Twostellas):
The first reviews of Sex And The City 2 have been published, with one critic claiming the new film featuring Carrie and the girls is "anti-muslim"....

The film sees the four New Yorker friends travelling to the Middle East for a trip to Abu Dhabi, but the Hollywood Reporter says it conjures up a "scathing portrayal of Muslim society".

Carrie, played by Sarah Jessica Parker , Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall ), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Scott ) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon ) get caught up in moments there which the review says shows the region as "puritanical and misogynistic".

"The rather scathing portrayal of Muslim society no doubt will stir controversy, especially in a frothy summer entertainment," read the review by Hollywood Reporter.

One scene even features the four main characters being rescued by Muslim women who strip off their burkhas to reveal the stylish Western outfits they are concealing beneath their black robes.

While in another scene, the ladies perform a karaoke version of Helen Reddy's I Am Woman in an Abu Dhabi nightclub, as man-eater Samantha shocks the locals with her sexual escapades.

Officials in the United Arab Emirates had denied the production team permission to film within the city, as did Dubai and instead the Abu Dhabi scenes were recreated in Morocco.

Abu Dhabi is currently considering whether to ban the film.

Jihadis Crossing Into U.S. From Mexico

From Jihad Watch:

I've heard direct accounts of this several times over the years from people who live along the border in Arizona and Texas.

Marisol posted about this on Saturday here. The Right Scoop just kindly sent me the video to which she linked -- it is now embeddable, so here it is.

Kenya Court Rules Islamic Courts Are Illegal

Updates will follow and we will post them here for you. The Muslim community will not react well to prohibitions of shariah courts.

From BBC:
Kenya's Islamic courts are illegal and discriminatory, a panel of judges has ruled.

The three judges said the Islamic "Kadhi" courts favoured Islam over other faiths, and that this was unconstitutional as Kenya was a secular country.

The issue of Islamic courts has been a contentious point in the country's new proposed constitution.

It is due to go to a referendum in August.

The Kadhi courts - set up under British colonial rule - mainly deal with matters of marriage and inheritance for Kenya's Muslim minority.

The Christian church in Kenya brought the case to court six years ago.

As part of a power-sharing deal to end deadly riots following elections in December 2007, it was agreed that a new constitution would be written.
